I took these just 8 weeks before my dad passed away, I am grateful to have these but dearly wish we had had our family portrait done. We kept talking about it. My wonderful friend and business partner Prue was going to take the portraits but something kept coming up.... it was too hard to get us all together, Dad was having an off day.... always something!!

If I was ever to offer anyone advise it would be, Get your family portraits done as often as possible... I dont care how you have them done or who does them..... grab a neighbour with a mobile phone... it doesn't matter, just get them done xx

Below is the last photograph taken of my dad and me at a family wedding, it is a great memory for me and one I hold dear.

Everytime I come here I say "oh I am so far behind on my blogging".... lets face it, I am just a bad blogger. Here it is nearly the end of June and my last post was January!!
I think I will just give you month by month updates until I can catch up :)

February saw me having loads of fun and trying alot of different things. First off I caught up with Shane Blewitt from the band "Mass of the Infinite" for a quick one on one photo session.

Then it was off to Melbourne to an amazing workshop..... had the best time with a great bunch of people! Can't wait to do the next workshop :)
Here is just a small sample! Seriously how hot are these models!

Met up with two beautiful young ladies here in Wodonga and got to put into practice what I had learned at the workshop. I love this age and the camera loves them too :)

Of course no month goes by with a baby session. This little guy is so cheeky and so cute..... just like his parents!

So there you have an abridged version of my February......now what did I do in March???

The son of one of my dearest friends is a mad keen muso.....literally lives and breathes his music.
He asked if I would a do a couple of shots of him & his guitar rocking! Hell yeah!!!

Timmy and his brother are sufferer's of Neimann Pick Type C Disease I ask that everyone who reads this post, please head on over to the NPCD website and share the site with 5 friends.

We are desperate to raise awareness about this disease, it is the first step in the long battle ahead to fight for treatment and a cure!

NPCD Pamper Day

I was fortunate enough to be involved with the first "Ladies Pamper Day & Dinner" fundraiser held in Benalla for the Australian NPCD Foundation
The day was deemed a huge success, ladies were treated to hair & make up sessions, massage, dermabrasion, spray tan, wine tasting, jewellery stall, champagne and a photo session.

For those who missed out... not to worry we have plans to run more during the year and I can confirm that an Albury/Wodonga Pamper Day will be held on May 22nd 2010 (details to be posted soon)

Ok, it's time catch up on my blogging.

In early November I visited the lovely mums in Cobram/Barooga on the Murry River. I meet these ladies and their beautiful children regularly for portrait parties, birthday and newborn sessions.
It has been so great for me to watch these kids grow, thank you so much ladies for allowing me to be a part of your lives in this way :)

Okay, here is something different from me :)

This is local (Albury/Wodonga) band Asylas and you need to check them out ...... Asylas .

I have to admit to taking a bit creative license with these shots. They were taken at a "Feedback" session at the Wodonga Arts Space where young and upcoming talent can be mentored in an encouraging environment.
It was a great session, relaxed and casual! Though from a photography perspective the lighting did nothing to flatter the shots I took (have alot to learn in this area :)

Anyway guys, I hope you enjoy this preview and I look forward to seeing you perform next time!

National Baby Loss Awareness

ACOCP: “On Baby Loss Day –
Picture the Babies. Talk and Listen to the Parents.”
15 October 2009 – Today, on International Baby Loss Day, The Australian Community of Child Photographers (ACOCP) is urging people to recognise the many families that go through the tragic loss of a child, rather than risk isolating them by neglecting to acknowledge their loss.

International Baby Loss Awareness Day is 15 October. Across the world, memorial services, balloon releases and candle lighting at 7pm take place in honour and as a sign of remembrance for lost children.

Said Jessie Broome, president and co-founder of ACOCP, “The grief that follows the loss of a child is so engulfing but it can also be very isolating. We encourage people to take the time to honour this grief; to realise that by avoiding the subject does not make it go away and by simply acknowledging the child can help the family immensely.”

ACOCP is an entirely not-for-profit Australian organisation that gives the gift of photographic memories to families who have had a stillbirth, premature baby, infant in the NICU or child with serious or terminal illnesses. Participating photographers – some of whom have previously experienced their own loss - are on call 24/7 to go to hospitals or homes and are often present during the families’ most tragic hours.

Jessie continued, “The wider community finds the loss of a child very difficult. We find it difficult to know what to say or what to do, so often tend to stay away - particularly after the funeral. The process goes on for a long time and support is needed over the long haul and not just the first weeks.

“Listening is the key. Parents often want to tell you the stories of their children. You don’t have to say much. Alternatively, some people find practical measures easier, such as helping out with cooking meals, child care services or housework.

“It’s understandable that people feel at a loss of what to say or do – for a long time, death has been a taboo subject in our society. It’s not something people discuss, but I think we must.”

The Role of Photography in the Grieving Process
Jessie explains the important role the ACOCP plays, “The most heartbreaking thing in the world is losing a child. As a parent, we look forward to watching our child grow, finding out who they are and watching them develop. We fill boxes with drawings and paintings and reports and photos. When you lose a baby, you also lose a lifetime of memories.

“In some situations, when facing the death of a child, parents are encouraged to take time with their little one. They are given a fleeting opportunity to try to create a lifetime of memories within a small space of time. They are encouraged to bond with their child, to hold them, to sing to them. To take their footprints, a lock of their hair and as many photos as possible. This is where the ACOCP comes in. We capture many beautiful, professional-quality, images in the most loving and sensitive way, so that parents has something that they can share with family and friends, something to treasure and remember always.”

Martine Oglethorpe is an ACOCP members who also lost her baby daughter, Ava at five months:
“Nothing will ever take away the pain of losing a child but having photos is so important not only for comfort but to help keep their memory alive, particularly for other siblings who would otherwise not remember.

“It is hard for people to know what to say but I know for myself that I much prefer people to continue to acknowledge her and include her as part of our family. I have a canvas photo of her beautiful smiling face hanging on our wall and I too was wary of how people would react but mostly they just smile back at her and comment on how gorgeous it is.”

Said Mel Bright, ACOCP photographer:
“Recently I was chatting with a mum whose baby had passed away at 12 hours old. I took his portraits after he died. The part of our conversation that struck me the most was that she didn't have clear memories of the time she had with her baby. She ended up having a caesarean, which I believe is often very common in these circumstances. For her, this cloudy time was the only time she got to spend with her son.

“The photographs clearly showing what her baby looked like have been ever so meaningful for her. When I prepared an album for her, I did all the pictures black and white. This meant so much to her as she was able to comfortably share her pictures with family and friends. Just as any proud parent would like to.”

About ACOCP ACOCP is an entirely not-for-profit Australian community organisation giving the gift of photographic memories to children in need and their families. ACOCP works with families who have had a stillbirth, premature baby, infant in the NICU or child with serious or terminal illnesses. This weekend saw me head over to Cobram/Barooga located on the NSW - Vic border along the Murray River.
Once there I was to meet up with the wonderful C, who was hosting a portrait party in the Barooga Community Botanical Gardens.
I had a fantastic day with C , her friends and their adorable children. Here is a sneak peek from the first session of the day.

Australian Community of Child Photographers

I am proud to say that I have been accepted into this wonderful charitable organisation and would like to share a bit about them with you.

There is nothing as joyous for parents and families as celebrating a new birth and watching a child grow to maturity. But sometimes tragedy interrupts through premature birth, stillbirth, ill infants and terminal illness.

In these difficult and sad times, parents often don’t consider the importance of documenting the moments of the closeness of family, or capturing the details of a child until it is too late.

That is where the Australian Community of Child Photographers (ACOCP) can give the gift of photographic memories.

The ACOCP is a non-profit, volunteer organization covering Most States & Territories of Australia. Over 100 members donate their time & talent as successful professional photographers in their own right, to provide a caring photographic session either in hospital, patient’s home or convenient location.

Each photographer will work with the family to provide beautiful images, capturing those special moments forever. Since its official launch in 2007, the ACOCP has photographed countless families around Australia.

This, like any volunteer organisation relies on fundraising to survive.....

I think I have said it before.....I have the best job in the world!!
This little guy is the sweetest and yes, cutest little fellow around!
He was such a good boy for his session and he seemed to be fascinated by the camera!

These two little brothers were a dream to shoot, their session just seemed to fly by it was so much fun! Little Mr K is such an adorable cuddly boy and his big brother just adores him.

After Mr M's session it was Mr J's turn...he had been patiently waiting, smiling and cooing. And not much changed throughout his session...... we had a mini break for a feed and change and he was raring to go again!

The sweetest smile I have seen :)

Little Mr M was such a good boy during his photo session, he was bored out of his brain and not interested in the camera at all but he managed to amuse himself with the simplest of toys (cardboard tube:) and a banana.
